Idea y conceptos
This work is a self-portrait , a diary in which the artist becomes the subject of observation and where every entry is in the form, an encoded moment of time.
The underlying idea takes as a reference the text of Roland Barthes
Roland Barthes, Camera Lucida, Reflections on photography (1990: 14):" The portrait-photograph is a dosed field of forces. Four 'image-repertoires intersect here, oppose and distort each other. In front of the lens, I am at the same time: the one I think I am, the one I want others to think I am, the one the photographer thinks I am, and the one he makes use of to exhibit his art. In other words, a strange action: I do not stop imitating myself, and because of this, each time I am (or let myself be) photographed I invariably suffer from a sensation of inauthenticity, sometimes of imposture (comparable to certain nightmares)."
Relating concepts such as identity, exposed but little examined, compulsive experiences, the project aims to generate an increase in visibility of a perceptive process, also emotional: that of obsessions. An eye-camera that obsessively shows the observed subject. The search for a contaminated identity that is not recognized verbally but that can be seen in the symbolic metaphors of repetitive and in many cases maladaptive behaviors.
In short, a metaphor for the neurosis of modern women with a high level of introspection and connection with their environment but with the need to develop strategies that allow to reduce the stress caused by a hostile environment and against a society that demands more than we can offer.
The audiovisual piece consists of three HD videos, each one of them describes and represents a week, 3x7 = 21 days of the artist with a duration of 6 min. They can be displayed individually or synchronized in a loop showing different days. The project is completed in one or several installations, called Altars, with pieces made in collage and photographs.
Ana Marcos creates video works employing mainly Identity material, such as a personal archive of photography and illustrations, which she subjects to subtle interventions, like animating or mix them into the existing image. In the process, the artist changes their primary context, simultaneously creating illusions and presents a new comparative reading of the differing perception of the physical intimacy norms of documentation. She investigates the impact of documentation on its future reception.
The reality is again somewhat unstable and ever staged. The aesthetics of what matter does not show ; objects and subjects are observed in a landscape that imagine another reality – image; it deserves to be looked as valuable.
